Merino Wool: A Miracle of Nature
Merino wool is one of the most refined and valuable natural fibers there is. It is known for being a particularly soft and fine wool, but it has much more than just that to offer.
Merino wool is breathable, odor-resistant, easy to care for and excellent at removing moisture.
So what does that mean for you? You can wear Merino wool socks in your sneakers in the summer, or in your favorite boots when the temperatures plummet. Guaranteed comfort, with sweaty smells a thing of the past!
Questions About Merino Wool:
Why does Merino wool not scratch?
The strength of a wool’s fibers determines how soft it is. The fibers in Merino wool are weak and flexible. This means that the hairs bend when they touch our skin, creating Merino wool’s typical soft feel.
Why do my feet not smell in these socks?
Merino fibers have a scaly surface, which is difficult for bacteria to stick to. Merino wool also offers a form of self-cleaning effect.
How does Merino wool protect against moisture?
Merino wool stores water vapor internally and repels moisture from its surface. Moisture sits temporarily in the air chambers between the fibers. The wool can absorb up to a third of its own dry weight in this way, with the material still feeling dry.
Why is this wool also good for the summer?
The curled structure of Merino wool means that its fibers sit loosely against each other. Our body heat is then stored in the air pockets this creates. This offers insulation from the outside and a pleasant climate inside, meaning that our Merino wool socks will also keep you cool in summer.
Merino Sneaker Socks
As well as the classic calf-length design, our Invisible Socks are also available in Merino wool. As the name suggests, these stay hidden in your shoes. This makes them perfect for sneakers and other low-cut shoes – so your socks do not steal the show. They will keep your feet warm in winter but also soak up sweat particularly effectively in the summer heat. Silicone dimples mean that Merino sneaker socks will not slip down inside your shoes.
Invisible Merino Socks are available in classic black, elegant gray, calming blue and invigorating orange.
How to Look After your New Favorite Socks
Our Merino wool socks come from a small sock factory in northeast Milan, where they are lovingly made by three siblings who represent the second generation – so they are Italian through and through!
Wash-proof: Merino wool is easier to look after than any other fabric: it does not wrinkle, produces little fluff and makes life much easier with its natural self-cleaning effect. Dirt rolls off, and the aromas it absorbs are released back into the air, leaving the wool quickly smelling natural again.
Our Merino wool socks also come equipped with a Total Easy Care finish, meaning that they can be washed in a washing machine at 30 degrees with peace of mind and will not shrink. Even after countless washing cycles, they still look virtually good as new – anything else would just be a pain!
Wool from Happy Sheep
The light hairs of the Merino breed of sheep grow long and thin. They curl to form what is known as lanugo hair, protecting the animal from the cold. This means that Merino sheep can withstand exceptional climate conditions and temperature variations of 50 degrees or more.
The well-being of our wool producers is very close to our heart:
- We rigorously ensure that the sheep are not subjected to any mulesing whatsoever.
- It is important to us that they are looked after in a way that is appropriate for the species and this also ensures high-quality Merino wool.
- We work very closely with our suppliers in Australia.
This may all cost a little more, but we owe it to both the sheep and your conscience!
