New Site, Same Prices

New York, NY (April 6, 2010) - From a solitary screen in 1999 to a stunning interactive display, the Web site redesign for the Swiss company Blacksocks debuts today. Known for its innovative “sockscription” service that delivers socks to your door year round, Blacksocks’ Web site has always been the cornerstone of the business, allowing shoppers to browse and buy products online.

Blacksocks’ new redesign makes the site more user-friendly and emphasizes visual communication, with enhancements like intuitive positioning of content, a streamlined checkout process, and sophisticated graphics. They create a better shopping experience for Blacksocks’ clientele, traditionally business executives who are short on time but long on their impeccable taste in wardrobe staples. Throughout its 11-year history, Blacksocks has spared these men precious time and money - and perhaps most importantly, the anguish of looking down and finding their toe poking out of a hole in their sock.

“Even with our beautiful new design, one thing remains the same,” said Blacksocks president and founder Samy Liechti. “And that’s the top-notch quality that our customers have come to expect from our lines of men’s socks, underwear, and undershirts. Better yet, our prices remain what they were 10 years ago.”

Blacksocks has consistently been an internet pioneer, refreshing and optimizing its online presence since the early days of the World Wide Web. In 1999, the Web site was a single screen featuring an image of a washing machine. Orders were placed in the washing machine, which sent an e-mail directly to Liechti’s inbox. That summer, Blacksocks launched the “Sock Game,” which could be played on the Web site, and was named a “Site to Watch” at the GDI E-Shop Awards.

Over the next two years, the Web site was developed further, going bilingual (English/German) in 2001. In 2002-03, Blacksocks.com treated itself to a facelift, giving visitors three different options for displaying the content: “Nostalgic,” “Playful” and “Purist.” The “Playful” option boasted Flash navigation.

Blacksocks carries men’s socks, fine undershirts, boxer shorts and briefs, and travel shave kits, available via subscription. The popular concept saves shopping time and gas, and alleviates stress for time-stretched, tech-savvy men by allowing them to purchase their fine-quality essentials online and have them delivered at home in regular intervals.
