Why it was introduced

The Oeko-Tex® Standard was introduced in the early nineties as a response to the needs of the general public for textiles which posed no risk to health. Since then, the Oeko-Tex® Association, made up of a series of independent testing bodies, has been guaranteeing safe textile products. For companies in the textile and clothing industries, the Oeko-Tex® catalogue of criteria has provided a consistent, scientifically sound benchmark for the evaluation of potentially hazardous materials in textiles.
