Non-ribbed calf socks made of 74 % mercerised cotton.

Our Business light socks are made of 74 % mercerised cotton, while our knee socks are 100 %. But what is mercerised cotton?
The process of mercerisation exposes cotton to concentrated caustic soda. This expands the fibres and makes them up to 25 % shorter. The cross-section of the fibres changes from kidney-shaped to round. This refinement results in a permanent change in structure. The fibres take on a silky, wash-resistant sheen and become stronger and thus more stable. The increased stability means that peeling can largely be prevented. This makes it easier to dye the yarn.
Mercerisation is an expensive procedure. So it is only used for high quality textiles.
